EXPERIENCE
Vimbly (tech startup in 28 cities; activity-booking website) New York, NY
Business Strategy and Operations (April 2015 – August 2017)
- Built data science-based tools to make the company more efficient in: managing customer service team members, measuring response time to customer issues, recruiting int’l contractors, and other data-oriented tasks
- Data visualization: Constructed data visualization dashboard (R-Shiny) used by CEO on a weekly basis to review and plan activity availability nationwide; platform still in use today and drives workflow of 15 people
- Machine learning: Trained a rudimentary machine learning algorithm to read ~20k activity descriptions and categorize them accordingly (e.g., improv show, dessert tasting); discovered ~500 misclassified activities (e.g., marked as food tour rather than cooking class)
- Data validation: Created a system to replace manual data-validation tasks (involving 6 people) with an automated error-resolution dashboard (powered by SQL and Google Apps Script); result was a permanent reduction in human time required from 50 hrs/wk to 10 hrs/wk, and eliminating the need for ongoing developer support
- A/B testing: Designed and analyzed A/B test with Operations Manager to optimize key pages in user flow; experimentation yielded ~25% increase in mobile bookings • Optimization: Reduced company-wide customer service costs by 19% by (a) creating data-driven re-allocation of service reps to time shifts; and (b) automating most statistically frequent support issues
- Worked with Operations Manager to help manage and recruit an international 60-person data processing team
